How to book

Living off grid and amidst nature is not for everyone. We encourage you to spend some time understanding the limitations and special features of our home, and share this with your party to ensure that everyone is comfortable with it.

Make your booking

We do not accept direct bookings. All bookings and payments are made through Airbnb and please note that Airbnb service fees apply. Click the button below to go to our Airbnb listing:

Prepare for your stay

We are in a remote area of the lake and there are no stores or restaurants nearby. Therefore, careful planning is necessary to avoid unnecessary trips to the stores once you are there:

  • Bring all necessary ingredients to cook your meals. We take care of breakfast.
  • Bring all your beverages and enough ice if you expect to use a lot. We provide drinking water.
  • Bring what you need to stay warm or dry depending on the weather. Check the weather here.
  • Bring insect repellent and anti-histamines if you are highly sensitive to insect bites.

Once you have made your booking, we’ll be in touch to confirm:

  • Check-in and check-out times.
  • Driving directions and check-in instructions.
  • Your choice of breakfast, and any special dietary needs you may have.

FAQs

We can accommodate up to 18 persons in total: 12 in our Hillside Villa, and another 6 in our Springside Villa. Our home was designed to sustain a maximum of 18 guests so we are strict about this.

All our bedrooms are fan-cooled. Because of its elevation and distance from the ocean, Caliraya temperatures are normally 3 – 4 degrees cooler than Manila. This means that you can enjoy the benefits of clean fresh mountain air all throughout your stay.

Pets are allowed if their owners can reassure us that they are friendly, house trained, and free of ticks and fleas. The Lake House is also home to our senior resident dog, Beedo, and so visiting dogs must be healthy and do not carry infectious diseases.

Yes. While we provide breakfast, guests bring and cook their own meals.  We have a fully equipped kitchen that you can use at no additional cost, and our housekeepers will be happy to assist you with dishwashing and clean-up.  However, please note that they need their rest and are relieved of their duties after 8 pm.

Yes. But please wear a life vest if you are not a strong swimmer, and make sure that your children are supervised at all times.  Please take some time to read our house rules on water safety.

Yes, but please note that your booking is limited to 18 guests which includes day visitors or guests who are not staying overnight.  The same rates, terms and conditions apply unless you intend to use our home for commercial purposes like filming advertisements or movies.  See the section on ‘Intended use’ under our House Rules.

Yes. A natural underground spring supplies The Lake House with clean fresh mineralized water. The water passes through 5 separate filters to ensure it is clean, and we test it regularly to ensure that it is safe to drink. Please bring your own ice because we are not able produce a constant supply.

We provide outdoor parking adjacent to the boat loading area. The place is guarded and it is safe to leave your car there.

About 15 minutes. The boat can accommodate up to 18 people.

House Rules

Intended use

The Lake House is intended to be used as a quiet retreat for families or small groups of friends. If you have ANY other purpose in mind, you must let us know and obtain permission before booking. Prior to arrival, we must obtain a complete list of guest names. One person in the group should be designated as the responsible contact person. This person must be at least 25 years old, and must be present at The Lake House for the duration of the rental period. You may add persons to your group if you notify us at least 7 days prior to your visit, and pay the additional per person fees. Under no circumstances can the total number of guests exceed 12. No visitors are allowed unless previously approved by us.

If you are interested in using The Lake House for a photo shoot, ceremony, event, or any other purpose that cannot be characterized as personal use, you must give us an explicit description of your concept before booking. Please be aware that such purposes are subject to different rules and rates, and must be approved by us in advance.

Property damage and losses

Guests are responsible for loss and damages to the property, buildings, kitchen equipment and appliances and leisure and sports equipment. The cost of replacement and major repairs will be charged to the guest accordingly.

Solar powered home

We rely on the sun to generate electricity (with a backup generator for emergencies) and heat water. Since the sun only shines during the day, living ‘off-grid’ – meaning there is no connection to the power grid – requires a few adjustments. While there is plenty of power during the day, it is limited at night where the place runs on batteries. As a result, we ask that you comply with the following guidelines:

  • No high wattage electrical appliances such as hair dryers, clothes irons, electric kettles or rice cookers etc.
  • Please turn off lights, fans, stereo equipment etc. when not in active use.
  • Take short showers and make sure the water is not running through faucets and toilet tanks. Inform us of leaks immediately.

Check-in and check-out

Check-in is at 1pm at the resort. To maximize your stay, we recommend you arrive at the parking area 30 minutes early as it takes time to load the boat and cross the lake. Be sure to inform us of your time of arrival so we can ensure the boat is ready to pick you up. If there are no other guests checking out on the day when you are checking in, you may request for an early check-in of up to 4 hours, for an additional fee of PHP 1.000,- per hour.

Check-out is strictly at 11am. If there are no incoming guests on the day of your departure, you may request for a late check-out of up to 4 hours, for a fee of PHP 1.000,- plus Airbnb fees per hour. Under no circumstances will we approve late check-outs if there are new guests arriving on your day of departure. Guests staying beyond the agreed check-out time, will forfeit their security deposit.

Inclement weather and natural calamities

The Philippines is prone to natural disasters. If you are prevented from enjoying your stay at The Lake House due to a typhoon, earthquake or other natural calamity directly affecting the area, you shall be entitled to either a rebooking or a refund of 50% of payments made. This does not apply to heavy rain or bad weather in general where no public storm warning has been issued by the Philippine government for the Caliraya area. We reserve the right to cancel your booking on short notice if we gauge that weather or any other natural phenomenon may endanger you, our staff or the property.

Note that any rebooking shall be subject to availability, and must be at the same price level as the original booking. If your rebooking dates are more expensive than the original dates, then you must pay the difference. No refunds are given for a rebooking to a cheaper date.

Water safety

Guests are responsible for their own safety, and an adult must always supervise children when using the swimming pool or swimming in the lake. We strongly encourage the use of the provided life vests during all water related activities in the lake, especially if you are not a strong swimmer. Please observe person and weight limits for the kayaks and paddleboards, and the ‘only one jumper at a time’ rule for the water trampoline.

Tipping

Tipping is not necessary, but if you wish to show your appreciation, please drop your tips in the tip box located in the kitchen.  Tips are shared equally amongst our staff.

Smoking and fires

Smoking is allowed out in the open, but is prohibited inside and around all building structures, trampoline, kayak and sports equipment. If you need to smoke, please remember to dispose of cigarette butts in ashtrays or trashcans provided.

No open fires are allowed anywhere on the property except in the bonfire pit on the lakeside lawn. Fireworks are not allowed anywhere on the property. If you are celebrating a special occasion that calls for a firework display, please contact us first.

Images and social media

If you would like to use images from our site, please credit the appropriate photographers, if their name appears on the image or the image metadata. If you would like to post them on social media, please tag them with our instagram @thelakehousecaliraya.

Getting there

The Lake House is situated on the north side of Lake Caliraya, and there is no road access to the place. We provide secure parking on the opposite side of the lake, and boat transfers to get you to and from our place. The boat trip takes about 15 minutes.

The easiest way to get to the parking area is by car. If you need help with transportation, please contact us. The drive from Metro Manila usually takes 2-3 hours, but you can check actual current driving times here:

To maximize your stay, we recommend you arrive at the parking area 30 minutes before your check-in time, as it takes time to load the boat and cross the lake. Be sure to inform us of your time of arrival so we can ensure the boat is ready to pick you up.
